Demolition debris behaves differently than general junk — it’s dense, it’s often mixed material, and it fills a weight allowance faster than it fills a box. We run demolition containers out of the yard at 430 Loucks Rd in West Manchester Township, sized around what’s actually coming down on jobs across York and the surrounding municipalities.

Sizing for Demolition Work
A single shed or a small deck teardown usually fits a 10 or 15 yard. A detached garage, a larger deck, or an interior demo — walls, flooring, cabinetry — typically needs a 20 yard. Larger structures or multi-room interior demos can call for a 30 yard, though once concrete, block, or brick enter the mix, weight limits usually make a dedicated smaller container the more practical choice regardless of the structure’s size.
Mixed Debris vs. Dedicated Heavy Loads
Wood framing, drywall, siding, and shingles can generally share a container. Concrete footings, block foundations, and brick need their own dedicated heavy-debris container — mixing them into a general demo box burns through the weight allowance almost immediately and leaves most of the box empty. Tell us what’s in the structure coming down and we’ll split accounts if the job needs both a general debris container and a heavy one.
What Never Goes in a Demo Container
Paint, fuel, oil, chemicals, solvents, lead-acid batteries, tires, medical waste, and appliances still holding refrigerant are excluded from every demolition container. Older structures sometimes contain asbestos in siding, insulation, floor tile, or adhesive — that material is never permitted in a dumpster under any circumstance and requires licensed abatement before demo can proceed. If there’s any doubt about a structure’s age or materials, get it tested before tear-down starts.
Permits for Demolition Debris Placement
Pennsylvania counties don’t issue right-of-way permits — York County itself has no general permit office for local roads. Instead, each of York County’s 72 municipalities (the City of York, its boroughs, and its townships) permits its own streets directly. A container set on your own driveway almost never needs a permit anywhere in the county. If a job genuinely has nowhere to put a box but the street or a sidewalk, the call is to that specific municipality’s own office — for jobs inside the City of York that means the City of York Bureau of Permits and Inspections; everywhere else it means that borough or township’s own office. A handful of corridors are state-numbered routes (US-30, I-83, PA-74, PA-124, PA-462, PA-116, PA-851, US-15) — placement directly on one of those needs a PennDOT District 8 Highway Occupancy Permit as well. We flag this for you when we quote the job, and driveway placement covers the vast majority of deliveries we run out of the Loucks Road yard.

FAQs
Demolition Debris Removal questions, answered
What size do I need for a garage demolition?
A 20 yard is the standard call for a detached garage. If the structure is larger or you’re demolishing more than one outbuilding at once, ask about a 30 yard when you book.
Can concrete and wood debris go in the same dumpster?
Not usually — concrete needs a dedicated heavy-debris container because of weight limits. We’ll set up separate containers for the concrete and the general wood and drywall debris if your demo job has both.
What if we find asbestos during demolition?
Stop and don’t put it in the container. Asbestos requires licensed abatement, and if there’s any suspicion about an older structure’s materials, it’s worth testing before tear-down starts, not after.
How many containers does a full interior demo need?
It depends on the scope, but a single 20 or 30 yard often covers a full interior gut on an average home. Larger or multi-room jobs may need a swap partway through — we’ll plan for it when you describe the scope.
Do you deliver to jobsites with limited equipment access?
Yes, describe the access when you call — driveway width, gate clearance, overhead lines — and we’ll plan placement around it before the truck ever shows up.
